Happy new year folks. I haven’t blogged in a while, have I? Anyway, here’s something I meant to write back in November, back when all the shows were doing ratings stunts. Anyway, just a review of all the shows I’ve been watching during the 2008-09 television season. They’re done in the order they’re showed in the week, starting with Monday.
Chuck
One of the more consistently good shows out there, I think. The only time I think it faltered a bit was during November, when Chuck reunited with his old college girlfriend. When she was revealed to be a fulcrum agent, it felt obvious and contrived. The very ending of that arc was good, though, and on the whole I think the second season is even better than the first thus far.
Heroes
Well, it seems like they at least cut down the cast slightly since last season. At least Maya has faded into the background. And I’m glad that they don’t seem to be doing Mohinder-logues every episode , though I really wish they’d cut them out altogether. At this point, the only character I feel especially attached to is Hiro, and maybe the rest of his current team.
House
Well, I still haven’t gotten around to watching the latest episode of this on Hulu, as I was out caroling when it aired, but I think it’s been doing ok anyway. It seems like people are more willing to show lesbian sex than gay sex, at least on major networks like Fox, like House did a few months ago(was that during November?) Huh. Even if the cast of House is getting a bit big, as I’ve heard some people complain, I kind of wish they’d bring that P.I. back, since he was fun to watch.
Bones
This used to be good, but now I’m just ashamed of it. Angela and Hodgins were stupid for breaking up, Bones herself has been acting like a bit of an idiot, and then there was that whole Zach-is-Gormogon thing from last season. Admittedly, I haven’t watched the most reason episodes of it, but I don’t really want to.
Pushing Daisies
I’m appalled that this is going to be canceled so soon. It’s really a great little show. People don’t know what they’re missing.
Private Practice
*snicker*I’ve been watching this for funsies as of late. Now, I’ve never actually seen Grey’s Anatomy, but it has got to be better than this. Whenever I watch it, I can’t help but MST it. All the characters act like high schoolers. If this is how mature adults act, I don’t ever wanna grow up.
Ugly Betty
This is another one that’s dead to me now. I don’t think I can say anything that hasn’t already been said about it, though.
My Name Is Earl
People don’t talk about this show much, but personally I like it a lot.
Kath & Kim
I’ve been watching this strictly because I have nothing better to do from 8:30 to 9 every Thursday. It’s largely unfunny and unappealing to me. Occasionally, someone says something that’s almost witty, but not often enough for it to actually be good. The original is probably better.
The Office
Even in it’s fifth season, it’s still very funny. I still haven’t seen any of the original UK series, though.
30 Rock
This one is also consistently funny. Even though it’s been using a lot of guest stars lately (which it can do with its shiny new Emmy) it hasn’t felt like it’s just relying on gimmicks.
Life on Mars
This is a cool show, though I’m curious to see how long it lasts. The original British version was only one season, so I hope that if this one runs longer it doesn’t wear too thin.
The Simpsons
In it’s 20th season, it’s just OK. I don’t think it’s horrible or anything, like some people do, but it’s not the funniest show out there.
King of the Hill
Fox is canceling this one, so once this season’s over we’re just gonna get a few more episodes. I heard that it’s going to move to Adult Swim, but I don’t know if it’s going to get any new episodes once it moves there. Which would be a shame, since I like this one a lot. It’s a change of pace from some of the other animated sitcoms out there.
Anyway, that’s all for now. I can’t wait until Scrubs premieres on Tuesday!
